New Year Resolution – develop your workplace safety management system

A new year is always a great time to take stock and we’d like to know if you have a safety management system in place?

Because if safety is not a priority in your workplace – why not?

As we look back on 2015 it is important to realise that 186 Australian workers were killed, while at work*.

That is a staggeringly high number.

186 people who didn’t get to go home from work, to their families.

Effective workplace WHS requires input and commitment from everyone member of the workplace, whether they are a contractor, employee, management or business owner.

So what can you do to help keep your workplace safe?

  • Undertake risk assessments

If you don’t know what your risks are, how can you manage them? During a risk assessment you review what the risks are within your workplace.

Once you know all the risks, you then review the likelihood of that problem occurring and the severity of injury should that safety breach occur.

  • Develop a safety management plan

Once you understand your risks it is important to do something about them. A safety management plan is how you are going to mitigate and minimise the chances of injuries occurring.

A safety management system is putting in place a systematic approach to your WHS. With the advancements made in technology many of the steps can be automated and policies and procedures can be easily stored.

So we urge you to make 2016 the year you will develop or perfect your safety management system. Get in touch to see how the BusinessBasics team can help make this a reality.
